Burning love and busking at the Dairy Queen

In a change of pace, I didn’t even have to drive to Asheville for today’s post. I took this earlier tonight at the Dairy Queen right here in Hickory. There’s an unusual scene, to say the least, at the DQ every Thursday evening. Tonight, it was classic cars, Elvis, and of course, ice cream. After […]

More DBT

As three guitar onslaughts go – and I consider myself an expert on the subject – the Drive-By Truckers threesome of Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, and John Neff are pretty damn impressive. The Friday night show at the Orange Peel was a delight to listen to, but challenging to shoot. Even though the DBT lighting […]

Golden Girls

As you can see, I’m spending a lot of time in Asheville. These ladies are the latest mime statues to tolerate my interest. Drive-By Truckers @ the Orange Peel

I drove to Asheville to see the Drive-By Truckers on Friday night. I wasn’t planning on shooting the show, but I’m way overdue for some new rock shots. I asked permission to shoot at the very last minute, and they immediately helped me get a photo pass. How nice is that? Why have I never […]

Daze after dark

I’ve passed by the wrought iron sculpture, Shopping Daze,  outside Malaprops Bookstore in downtown Asheville countless times and have never seen it quite this way. I’m not a proponent of photographing someone else’s artwork and using it for an image of my own unless I can create an image that is somehow different and does […]

Not what it seems

I had to think about whether or not to post this image. Partly because I just don’t know what to make of the subject, and partly because it’s not what it appears to be. This kid, who goes by the street name, Abe Linc, was another Asheville street performer, only I couldn’t tell where the […]

Abby’s spoons

Asheville, NC seems overrun with street musicians busking on warm weekends. Some are forgettable and some are listenable. Every once in a while, some are extraordinary, and will stop you in your tracks. The duo of Ben Shirley and Abby Roach are such a pair. It’s not every day that one encounters an incredible spoon […]
