One-eyed Dodge

© John Gellman

I came across this old Dodge truck near a barn I was shooting Saturday in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. The barn turned out to be underwhelming, but the old truck made my day. It looks like Bonnie and Clyde could have taken it for a spin, or perhaps some moonshiners used it to outrun the revenuers long before NASCAR took over in the region. Between the missing parts, the rusted out body, and a bullet hole in the windshield, the Dodge surely has some stories to tell.

Pete - Look at the way the frame comes out at the bottom of the grill, so the bumber can attach, true classic, thanks John.

Norma Baron - I find beauty in these old abandoned vehicles! Tractors, plows and hay rakes. At one time a vital part of people’s lives and literally put out to pasture to rust. They sit there like a faithful puppy waiting for the master come out and put it to work.

Brian Powell - love it :) what are you using for HDR? is it PS or something else?

JG - Thanks Brian – This is not an HDR shot. Processed in Lightroom, then moved to PS and added a smidgen of dramatic filter with Topaz Adjust, desaturated a bit with SilverEfex, then blended layer opacities. Nothing special, just 4 software packages. I never claimed to be Dorthea Lange, whose dust bowl Okies could have posed in this truck.

JG - Brian – It occurred to me that I never answered your question. I use Photomatix Pro for HDR processing, but I’m considering switching to HDR Efex Pro.

Jeff Tucker - I believe that there is what Neil Young would call a “fixerupper”. Wonderful shot, John!

JohnnyW. - I wish this thing could talk. I’d love to hear its stories.
